3. Mileage / flight accrual

 

 

3.1 Mileage accrual

 

3.1.1 One mile ( 1.609 m ) is deemed the basic unit for credits. The credit total for trips flown by the Smiles Program member will correspond to the number of miles actually flown between origin and destination (stops not included), according to the distances adopted by IATA (International Air Transport Association), or the minimum/maximum number of miles established by the Smiles Program or the partner companies.

 

3.1.2 In events requiring involuntary re-accommodation (delays or flight cancellations in which the passenger must be involuntarily re-accommodated in other flights) on VRG Linhas Aéreas flights operated by the brands GOL or VARIG, the miles related to the originally contracted routes shall be credited.

 

 

3.1.3 There are three types of miles:

 

•  Club Miles: are the miles earned based on actually flown distances on VRG Linhas Aéreas flights, operated by the brands GOL or VARIG and Air Partner, subject to specific agreement between VRG Linhas Aéreas and the relevant air partner company;

•  Bonus Miles: are the miles earned through special offers, class of service credit accumulation or card levels;

•  Partner Miles: are the miles earned upon the purchase of products and services obtained from Smiles Program non-air partners or from such air partners as specially agreed between VRG Linhas Aéreas and the relevant air partner company.

 

All types of miles accrued to the member's account may be redeemed for awards. However, only “Club Miles” will be taken into account for Smiles membership card level upgrading - Silver / Gold / Diamond.

 

Since the miles flown with Partners can be classified as Club miles or Partner Miles according to the specific contract with VRG Linhas Aéreas and the Partner, the participant should verify at the Smiles Customer Service Center or the Smiles site their eligibility for Club Miles.

 

3.1.4 Mileage credits, service used or product purchased from Smiles partners can only be earned once, whether in the Smiles Program or in any other partner programs. Any enrollment or promotional bonuses will be credited once only.

 

3.1.5 Mileage accrued in the Smiles Program may in no respects be added to any mileage accrued in other partners' programs, unless otherwise specifically agreed and divulged by Smiles. Mileage may further not be combined among other Smiles Program members for award redemption.

 

3.1.6 Mileage will be awarded to Smiles members who fly VRG Linhas Aéreas S/A, operated by the brands GOL or VARIG and any other Smiles air-partners, or stay at hotels, rent cars or purchase any other services from Smiles Program non-air partners. Miles may be further earned through bonuses, special offers or agreements. Miles will be credited only to accounts in the name of Smiles members who have effectively utilized the service.

 

3 .1.7 Miles earned in the Smiles Program based on the purchase of products and services from Partners, shall under no circumstances be reverted to the Partner.

 

3.1.8 The following airline tickets are not eligible for earning mileage credits: Smiles Tickets, VRG Linhas Aéreas (in flights operated by the brands GOL or VARIG GOL) award tickets – as well as tickets awarded from other airlines , reduced rate tickets (ID, AD, CD – Industry, Travel Agent and Commercial reduced rate tickets), Tour Conductor (TC) tickets, FRBPAR tickets, domestic and international charter flight tickets, DG tickets (Aeronautics free pass ticket), tickets issued under the tariff provisions concerning infants, promotional tickets issued subject to special tariff provisions and tickets issued for additional seating. Excess baggage and cargo transportation are not eligible, either.

 

3.1.9 VRG Linhas Aéreas and its Partners reserve the right to determine which flights, classes and rates are eligible to accumulate miles in the Smiles Program. For information on eligible flights, classes and rates, members should contact the Smiles Call Center .

 

3.1.10 Children from 2 (two) complete years of age to 12 (twelve) incomplete years of age accumulate Smiles Program miles according to these Regulations, even if they travel at the discounted rate prevailing for this age group. Children under 2 (two) years of age ( Infant ) will be boarded in a lap seat status and shall not be entitled to accumulate miles in the Smiles Program, since, according to the VRG Linhas Aéreas policy, there is no rate applicable to this age group.

 

3.1.11 Except as provided in items 3.1.8 and 3.1.9, all flights on VRG Linhas Aéreas operated by the brands GOL or VARIG - purchased at economy class advertised fares will earn credits corresponding to the actually flown distance. All tickets purchased at Comfort Class advertised fares or as Smile Upgrade will receive a 25% (twenty-five percent) bonus on the actually flown distance. Credits on other air partners will be earned in accordance with such parameters as established between air partners and the Smiles Program.

 

3.1.12 Mileage will only be credited to the account of the Smiles member when passenger has effectively flown or after he/she has used and paid for the services of non-air partners. The Smiles Program reserves the right to have already credited miles canceled in case the air ticket is not settled in full.

 

3.1.13 In case of involuntary upgrade, the passenger will receive mileage credit corresponding to the class of service actually paid for. In case of involuntary downgrade, the passenger will receive mileage credit corresponding to the class of service actually flown, once he will be refunded the difference in the ticket fares.

 

3.1.14 So that miles may be credited to the Smiles account, members should always give their Smiles number upon reservation and in the check-in or directly to Smiles non-air partners when purchasing their products/services.

 

3.1.15 In the event that miles related to the use of VRG Linhas Aéras flights, operated by the brands GOL or VARIG and Partner flights are not credited, the participant may claim them within a term of up to 6 (six) months from the date(s) of the flight(s) in question. In relation to the credits arising from non airline Partners, retroactive credits can be requested within a term of 6 (six) months counting from the date on which the service or item purchased has been paid.

 

3.1.16 Members are responsible for keeping the original flight documents (boarding pass, voucher and/or electronic ticket), as well as those concerning products purchased or services provided by Smiles non-air partners (invoice, receipt, contracts). In the event of requests for retroactive credits, it may be necessary to substantiate the use or purchase of services or products by forwarding a legible copy of these documents to Smiles.

 

3.1.17 The Smiles Program reserves the right to revoke mileage credit from flights, classes, rates, products and services not eligible for mileage accrual when it is determined that mileage was improperly credited to the Smiles member's account.

 

3.2 Flight accrual

 

3.2.1 The number of flights flown will only be considered for classifying the member card level, according to item 5. There is no award for this kind of accumulation. Tickets issued as per the fares described in items 3.1.8 and 3.1.9 are not eligible for credits.

 

3.2.2 In case of involuntary rerouting on VRG Linhas Aéreas flights, operated by the brands GOL or VARIG mile credits will be given with respect to the originally booked segments.
